Goal Setting, Self Sabotage and Getting Things Done!

How many of us are so overwhelmed by the number of tasks we need to get done in a day that by the time we go to bed we are so exhausted. We get up the next day to do it again, with seemingly no end in sight. We focus on all the “things” we didn’t do, and trained to look for all those things that we haven’t done yet instead of looking at what we have done. Oh, sure there is always more that we want to do or have to do. 
 
The responsibilities of daily life are just that; daily life, we’ve chosen to add those tasks to our lives and yet we moan and groan about them, I know I use to  do that too.   What if we recognise daily tasks for what they are - how we live on this planet. What if we recognise all those daily tasks now as daily accomplishments and then choose to enhance our day by adding the extra’s of life – the “I get to do” or “I want to do”.

                                 When we change our perspective our life changes. 
 
We are taught to believe that we aren’t doing enough, not perfect enough, blah blah blah. We know the stories we are told and the ones we tell ourselves. I got tired of living like that so I look for ways to make my life easier, by using my thought and perspective, to unlearn the overwhelming feelings that we have placed on ourselves. 

So, one of the ways I overcame this sense of not getting enough done was to: 

Compartmentalise my priorities and allot dedicated time to achieving that task and it works every time. I express my desire to focus on “the thing”, and I will allot X amount of time to each task and move about my day. I set realistic timelines and time slows down, I don’t fret about the time because I have scheduled my day and prepared for whatever may come up. I do this because I like how I feel when my life flows so I look for more flow.  I have learned to not pressure myself; I’ve learned to recognise the many “things” I do in a day.  Which guided me to learn to schedule and plan my day accordingly; thus, letting go of the stress, guilt and overwhelmed feeling of not getting enough done.  Which I found to be a ridiculous way to live. 

                                   I want life to be my reality, not someone else’s. 
 
This shift of unlearning thoughts, patterns and beliefs of not being enough, to accomplishing what I choose, creative tasks or things I’ve just been putting off.
It came to be, because of the OMG I can’t even think about this right now – stuff. I literally got tired of being tired and looking at things and being exhausted before I started. This feeling helped me become determined to learn about effective goal setting, self sabotage, and changing belief patterns that were holding me back. 
 
Instead of running around like a crazy person which is an overwhelming feeling in itself, I stopped letting life happen to me and took control. Our patterns our own creations or borrowed from others isn’t serving our best interests now, so change them. It’s a process that once you start gets easier and easier. You become capable of achieving so much more in your day.
 The below list is what I know about myself and about life 
1. Recognize I already know what my “daily tasks” are and know how long each task takes me to complete.
2. I know I have other things I also want to accomplish and I know the list is long.
3. I know that the list will never go away and I know that I will only get certain items on my list done.
4. I know that my top priorities and items I deem important will be at the top of the list.
5. I know that life and plans can change without notice and I am okay. 
6. I know that I am okay with knowing all that and okay with not completing all those tasks.
7. I am grateful that I get to do so many things in a day. 
Choose your "extra" item and follow these steps
  1. Pick your task and know how much actual time it will take to complete and be realistic. If you can devote an hour then do that, if you know it’s going to take more time, then add that to your day/week/month.
  2. Setting the timer on a task keeps me focused and I get further ahead. Plus I'm not constantly checking the time.
  3. Once your set time has concluded then tidy up or not and move on to the rest of your day.
  4. Pat yourself on the back!!!
  5. Congratulate yourself for completing and adding in an “extra” to your day and what you have accomplished.
These steps help you to eliminate stress, stay present when on task,  great self care and promotes changing self sabotaging behavior.  Most of the time I have found that a number of my tasks, or extra's can be as short as 15 minutes or longer, it's important to realize that if we put action to the task it is started or completed in minutes.  Don't hold off, it feels better to check those items, be creative, be productive, you are amazing!
  
We care so much about what others will think that we ultimately put an anchor on ourselves, we compare ourselves to others lives, I find this is ridiculous and a great big waste of time. 
                Life can be so easy when you want it to be instead of need it to be!
