I presented at a Lunch n' Learn about self care practices and the value of implementing daily self care. I wanted to share with all of you.
When we are stressed Self Care is the first thing TO GO and should be the first thing we GO TO. Self Care is defined as the mindful time, to pay attention to YOU, in a way that ensures YOU ARE being cared for by YOU. "We can't pour from an Empty Cup" Guilt usually holds us back from self care. Why? 1. We are taught that others come first so we shouldn't spend time on ourselves. 2. If money is involved then we feel guilty about spending money on ourselves. Busy-ness is a way to not deal in the moment. How many times have you said this to yourself or others - "I'll deal when I have more time, tomorrow, the next day." "I'm to busy right now to think about ME." This self talk creates your life and puts you last on the list of importance. You are important!! Many times it takes an illness or accident for us to realize we are important and to start focusing more on ourselves which in-turn has the ripple affect of helping others. "I believe that we should be taught to take care of our well being first with the understanding of care to self is care to others. " For all of you with children, spouses, partners and family members in the house. When possible include them in self care practices. When we teach children the importance of self care, they become more mindful, less stressed and better able to manage their emotions. We all need quiet time to sort out our thoughts and being busy constantly doesn't give our mind, body or spirit time to re-group and re-focus. Here are some ways to think of self care that you probably never even thought of. 1. Planning a Healthy meal 2. Doing Laundry 3. Brushing your teeth 4. Going to work 5. Laughter 6. Caring for a loved one 7. Exercising 8. Paying your bills 9. Relaxing - give yourself permission to sit and be I wanted to include these task because most of us don't realize how easy self care can be. We know the spa, get your nails done, or massage, which we can't do everyday. I realize that my daily tasks are part of my self care routine and practice, for without them I may not have a home and I'm extremely grateful for my home. When I care for myself, it enhances all facets of my life. Does this give you a new perspective on self-care? Please leave a comment and share your self care practices that enhance your life and those around you. Happy Self Care!
